Steve Cunningham and his ever so consistent galloper Steel Trigger made the long trek from Wangaratta to Moonee Valley on Friday 18th December 2015.
It had been a scorcher of a day with temperatures up in the 40s, so Steve didn't mind being in the last race at 10.15pm, as this meant he didn't have to travel down in the heat of the day and with the hot weather policy in place only had to be on track and hour before his race instead of two, so this would be the best and coolest part of the day.
Steel Trigger contested the William Hill Benchmark 70 1000 metre Handicap with a field of 10, from barrier 4 with Dwayne Dunn aboard carrying 59.5kg
Steel Trigger bounced out of the gates first to take the lead at a strong pace and didn't look like being headed. Flying through the gap at the valley and kicking away at the 200 metre mark running away with an all the way victory by 0.2 lengths. It was a gusty tough run leading all the way with a time of 0.58.60 and running the last 600 in 0.35.14 by the ever so courageous 6 year old grey gelding Steel Trigger.
Steel Trigger is by Ganseki out of Shamrock Jazz, Trigger was bread and educated by Steve. Trigger is raced by Steve along with his mom Sarah Cunningham, Kate Cunningham, Daivd Holohan and Ms J E Saxon. This now takes Steel Triggers earnings to $113,075.00 from 30 starts consisting of 6 wins 5 seconds and 7 thirds, nearly always bring home a cheque, what a great little horse to have, a lot of people out there would love a horse like this.
